Food and Self-Love

Sustainable health changes that last beyond the typical diet-cycle are possible when the driving force is rooted in self-compassion, self-kindness and self-love.   When we seek to make changes because we are steeped in self-criticism, self-denigration and self-loathing, we are responding to fear, not love. When we are afraid of not being good enough, not being loved, of failing, of all the darkness that can pervade our lives, we respond from a place inside ourselves that causes us to act in battle against our own self.   True change is never possible when it is rooted in fear or feelings of low self worth. True change can never occur if we are battling our own bodies.  When we are trying to change from a place of “I’m not worthy of good things”, or “I’m unlovable”, we’re most likely going to fail, because we have set ourselves up to win or lose a battle with our own nature.

True change happens when we move beyond the battle and will-power alone, toward having a solid foundation rooted within the positive intentions of self-love. Willpower is rooted in struggling, which can tend to be fear based. Self-love accepts that we are worthy of being loved today, this very moment!  The foundation of change has to come from a place of self-love, of trusting that we deserve to be healthy and happy and experience joy in this lifetime.
